WELL I’LL BE SCAMMED!
Scammers are everywhere! I repeat SCAMMERS ARE EVERYWHERE! Our job is to be aware that their number one objective is to get what you have obtained with hard work with little or no work. So I will be discussing ways to avoid scammers throughout the life of this blog. Doesn’t matter your age, you are a candidate for scammers. Today’s scam alert is the Grandparent’s Scam.
My mother-in-law was almost a victim of this scam. The scammer was just inept. She received a call from her “grandson” informing her that he had been in a car accident and needed her to wire money in order for him to be seen in the emergency room. Mistakes were made on the scammer’s part though. He said the accident occurred in the same city where he and his parents lived and he couldn’t give her the name of the hospital. But, even with that, it almost worked. She was so flustered and frantic that when she attempted to call us, she kept getting the wrong number. We again talked to her about scammers and to always be skeptical. Don’t Ever Send Money!
Scary. Scammers and phishers use fear to get us to give them what they want. Another good lesson that fear makes a poor motivator.
And it is a common belief that people over 60 are the prime targets for scammers, and they are but the age group that is next…30-39 year olds.
